Registering a domain name with HostGrower is straightforward — search for the name you want, check its availability, and complete your purchase in a few steps. This article walks you through the full process from search to activation.
Searching for a Domain Name
To find and register a domain, go to hostgrower.com/domains. You can search in two ways:
Type a Domain Name
- Type the domain name you want into the search box — you can include an extension (e.g.
mybusiness.co.uk) or leave it without one to see results across multiple extensions - Click Search
- If your chosen name is available, it will be highlighted at the top of the results as ready to register
- Below that, you will see the same name across other available extensions with their prices
- You can filter results by category, price, or availability using the options on the right-hand side
Generate a Name with AI
If you do not have a name in mind, use the Generate with AI option on the domains page. Describe your business in plain English and the AI will suggest a list of relevant, available domain names. See the AI Domain Suggestion guide for full details.
Adding a Domain to Your Basket
Once you have found an available domain:
- Select the registration period from the dropdown next to the domain — typically 1 year, though longer periods may be available for some extensions
- Click Add to Basket
- The domain moves to your basket and the status updates to confirm it has been added
- You can continue searching and add multiple domains to your basket before checking out
Completing Your Purchase
- When you are ready, click View Basket or go to the basket icon in the top navigation
- Review your order — you will see the domain name, registration period, and total price
- If you have a discount code, enter it in the discount code field before proceeding
- Select your Payment Type — Credit/Debit Card, Account Balance, or Direct Debit
- Enter your card details and click Save Card, then proceed to complete payment
- Once payment is confirmed, your domain is registered and activated instantly
After Registering Your Domain
Once your domain is registered, you can manage it from My HostGrower → Manage Services → Domains. From there you can:
- View your domain's expiry date and renewal settings
- Manage DNS records — point the domain to your hosting, email, or any other service
- Enable or disable auto-renewal
- Manage WHOIS privacy settings
- Initiate an outbound transfer if you ever wish to move the domain elsewhere
If you registered a domain alongside a hosting plan, you can point it to your HostGrower hosting immediately by setting the nameservers to ns1.stackdns.com through ns4.stackdns.com — or manage individual DNS records from StackCP.
