UK Domain Names

HostGrower is a UK-based registrar accredited with Nominet, the official registry for .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, and .ltd.uk domains. This means your UK domain is managed directly — there is no third-party intermediary.

Common UK Extensions

• .co.uk — the most widely recognised UK business domain, equivalent to .com for UK companies
• .uk — the shorter, modern UK domain; popular with startups and personal brands
• .org.uk — typically used by UK charities, community organisations, and non-profits
• .me.uk — intended for personal use
• .ltd.uk — reserved for registered UK limited companies
• .london — for businesses based in or targeting London
• .scot — for Scottish individuals, organisations, and businesses
• .wales / .cymru — for Welsh individuals and organisations

Registering a Domain

1. Go to hostgrower.com/domains and search for your chosen name
2. Select your preferred extension from the available results
3. Choose your registration period (1–10 years) and add to basket
4. Complete checkout — WHOIS privacy is the only optional extra
5. Your domain is activated instantly upon payment confirmation

If you are unsure which name to register, HostGrower's domain page includes an AI Domain Suggestion tool — describe your business in plain English and it will generate creative, available domain name ideas based on your description.

Using the AI Domain Suggestion Tool

1. Go to hostgrower.com/domains and click Generate with AI
2. Type a description of your business — for example: "a bakery that sells cakes online in London" or "a freelance web design studio for small businesses"
3. Click Generate — the AI will return a list of suggested domain name ideas
4. A popup appears showing each suggested name with available extensions (.com, .co.uk, .uk, .net, .org) and the price of each — click any row to see pricing detail
5. Click Check Availability on any suggestion to go directly to the domain search with that name pre-filled

Transferring a Domain to HostGrower

Transferring a .com, .net, .org or other gTLD

1. Log in to your current registrar and disable the transfer lock (sometimes called "Registrar Lock")
2. Request the EPP authorisation code (also called Auth Code or Transfer Key) from your current registrar
3. In My HostGrower, go to Transfer Domain Names, enter your domain, and click Search
4. Add to basket, complete checkout, and enter your EPP code when prompted
5. Approve the transfer via the confirmation email sent to the domain's administrative contact
6. The transfer completes within 5 days — your website and emails remain live throughout

Transferring a .uk or .co.uk domain

UK domains managed by Nominet use a different process — no EPP code is required:

1. Log in to your current registrar and change the IPS Tag to STACK
2. In My HostGrower, go to Transfer Domain Names and place the order
3. The domain transfers instantly once the IPS Tag change is confirmed

Transferring a Domain Away from HostGrower

1. Log in to My HostGrower and go to Domains
2. Select the domain and click Manage
3. Choose Transfer Away from the management options
4. Enter the IPS Tag of your new registrar (ask them for this if unsure) and click Submit

Domain Expiry and Renewal

HostGrower operates on auto-renewal — your domains renew automatically before they expire. You will receive a reminder email approximately one month in advance. You can also renew manually at any time from the Domains section in My HostGrower.

If a domain does expire, the following grace periods typically apply:

• 30-day grace period — you can renew at the standard rate with no penalty (applies to .com, .uk, .org, and most common TLDs)
• 30-day redemption period — renewal is still possible but an additional redemption fee applies
• After both periods, the domain enters the public pool and may be registered by anyone

Managing DNS Records

All DNS records for your HostGrower domains are managed from within My HostGrower. HostGrower's DNS platform runs on the same infrastructure as Google, providing fast and reliable resolution globally.

Supported record types include: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, NS, and CAA.

If your domain is used with HostGrower hosting, DNS is configured automatically. If you are pointing a HostGrower domain to an external server or service, you can update records directly from the domain management panel.

To point a domain to HostGrower hosting, set your nameservers to:
